The Students’ International Committee have a longstanding commitment in support of Nepali Bazaar, a Japanese NPO which works with women and children in remote areas of Nepal. More recently we have added support to Project Magoso, a school for disadvantaged children in the slums of Nairobi.
At this year’s hyogensai the Student International Committee presented a market stall in the school lobby featuring information about the projects we support and selling goods from Nepal and Kenya. The stall featured old favorites like the Nepali cookies and a new item in a limited edition bracelet from Kenya.
The bracelet was designed by students in collaboration with craftsmen in Nairobi and featured the school colours. Well over 50 000 yen was raised for Magoso school and Nepali.
Plans are already underway to expand the choice of items and level of fundraising for future years.
