Success at THIMUN 2018 Conference

A group of 12 Kumon Kokusai students recently returned from our 16th annual trip to The Hague International Model United Nations. The long history and experience of our overseas MUN programme was rewarded with a remarkable level of success.

The students all took part with great confidence and motivation and managed to more than double the number of speeches made and questions asked in our previous best THIMUN result. Our own in-house MUN programme (MUNK) and the addition of a Junior MUN have clearly built a new self-assurance among students who take part. Along with the outstanding performance of our THIMUN Singapore 2017 group, this year will go down in KKG MUN history.

This was also the 50th anniversary of The Hague International Model United Nations, in our view the best MUN conference in the world, running for a full week with 3,000 students from over 100 different countries. THIMUN has been strongly supported by members of the Dutch royal family and to celebrate the event King Willem-Alexander opened the conference (he was himself a delegate many years ago at the age of 18). Princess Mabel, who has visited the conference many times and is renowned for her humanitarian work, gave an inspiring lecture on the problem of child marriage. A Kumon student approached the princess to ask a question after the talk and managed to get herself a nice souvenir photo.
