As this was the first time this event was held, there were concerns about participation numbers. However, around fifty students took part.
The goal of the program was to encourage Kumon students to consider Waseda University as an option for further education.
Students were divided into two groups based on their area of interest (science or humanities). During the morning session, they attended a lecture which was followed by a question and answer session where Waseda University students talked to them about university life and gave advice on study habits for high school students. Students then took part in a workshop where they made a schedule and got a taste of life as a university student.
After lunch at the student cafeteria, they were taken on a campus tour and visited the Waseda University history museum.
Feedback from the participants has been very positive and all students felt it was a valuable experience. Kumon plans to participate again next year and hopes to make "Kumon Waseda Day" a regular part of the school year.
