Our school hosts two on-campus Model United Nations simulations: the Kumon Kokusai Gakuen Model United Nations (MUNK) and the English-language Kumon Kokusai Model United Nations International (MUNKI). Participation is voluntary and open to any student from the 7th through the 12th grade. The process kicks off by joining the MUNK support program, where students attend instructional seminars covering methods for researching assigned countries and guidelines for drafting position papers. They gather after school, engaging in repeated exchanges of perspectives across grade-level lines to advance their preparations. On the actual days of the MUNK and MUNKI conferences in February, a large number of students from other schools also participate, leading to multi-layered debates. Participating in the Model United Nations program not only elevates motivation for international understanding education and English language learning but also directly facilitates the improvement of social skills.
Furthermore, accumulating firsthand experience by participating in MUNK and MUNKI in February paves the way and connects fluidly to advanced training modules geared toward external overseas Model United Nations (MUN) conferences.
